Herefordshire Council is responsible for receiving, approving or rejecting planning applications.

As part of this process, it invites stakeholders, including its various Parish Councils and individuals residing in the parish, Highways, Environment, Water etc to comment and either support or object to planning applications arising within their parish or remit.

Planning applications may be for new builds, amendments and refurbishments, but for some applications (e.g. for some essential infrastructure, or for certain changes of use), parish councils can make only limited comments or sometimes none at all.

As planning applications go live, they are uploaded onto the Herefordshire Council planning portal, and visible to all.

Any parish council decision to support or object, may be based only on certain material considerations (please click link)

Herefordshire Council checks each planning application against its own planning policies, as well as stakeholder insights, and will make the decision to reject or approve an application.  Sometimes approval is dependent on specific conditions being met, which are detailed in the planning officers report. There is also an appeal process.

Live planning applications

Once planning applications have been submitted to Herefordshire Council, after an initial suitability check, they are uploaded onto the Herefordshire Council planning portal, and visible to all.  The relevant parish council is notified by Herefordshire Council of the application and given a time scale in which to respond. Decisions on planning applications may be found in Parish Councils’ minutes.
